Statewide resources and guidance · qualifications
Crime-victim compensation: injury, reporting and uncovered costs
Qualifications and requirements: The program addresses personal injury or death from another person's crime; eligible location, reporting, cooperation and uncovered-expense criteria apply.
The rule ordinarily requires reporting within 72 hours and applying within one year of the incident; the Board can consider specified good-cause exceptions.
Other payments, contribution to the incident, certain convictions or confinement circumstances can affect an award; review the complete rule with the program.
Documents to prepare (confirm what is required): Incident or police-report information; Treatment and expense records; Insurance or other payment decisions; Explanation and evidence of any reporting/application delay
Exceptions and checks: Ordinary negligent vehicle injuries are excluded, but intentional harm, qualifying DWI/BWI or leaving the scene involving serious injury or death have specified exceptions.
Property loss and pain and suffering are not covered.
Questions to ask: What crime and injury occurred?; Which expenses remain unpaid?; Does a good-cause exception need review?
Next steps: Contact the Board or victim advocate.; Use the official application.; Provide requested expense and other-payment records.
Limits: Submission does not guarantee an award. This is compensation screening, not a personal-injury lawsuit assessment.
